Siddha System – Neutralizing the Tridoshas

As per the human anatomy and physiology, deranged tridoshas (three humors) are the main contributing reasons for all the diseases in human beings. According to the Indian traditional medical therapies, tridosha is the disproportion of three constituents in the body. These three constituents regulate the body functions and the imbalance leads to many disorders in the body system.

Vatha, Pitha and kapha are the three basic components, which are made up of five elements namely Earth, Water, Fire, Air and Space. These three doshas co-exist in every cell of the human body and thus, function accordingly. Vatham, made up of Space and Vayu, controls the nervous system. Pitham, formed by Fire, directs the metabolic activities of the body, digestion, absorption, heat, etc. Kapham, formed by Earth and Water, controls the permanence of the human body. The imbalance of the three doshas engraves various diseases in the body.

In the Indian traditional medical therapies, the balance of the three doshas (humors) is compulsory to maintain a healthy state of mind and body. Ayurveda, Unani, Siddha are the traditional therapies that work for the balance and revitalization of the body organs.

According to Siddha medicine, the three doshas regulate the physical, emotional and mental state of the body. As all the major physical activities are associated with Vatham, Pitham is allied to internal transformations that involve the destruction or metabolism. On the other hand, Kapham directs all the constructive processes. The functions are inter-reliant, which infuse every constitution in the body. In short, the continuance of the stability is health, while the disorder is a disease.

In Siddha, the disproportion of the three doshas is healed by the varied traditional medicines formulated by the basic five elements, also known as the Pancha Bhootas. The rectification of the disproportion is done with the help of the medicine of the opposite nature. For a while, if Pitham dosha is increased, drop in the body temperature is suggested to drop off Pitham. In the treatment process, various herbs and natural contents are used to control the Pitham level. In most of the cases, sandalwood is used because of its cooling nature. On the other hand, in case of kapha dosha, a rise in the body temperature is produced to maintain the balance.

As stated earlier, the imbalance may lead to unhealthy physical state, which in turn makes the body prone to various diseases. Although, Ayurveda also works on the fundamental principles of tridosha, Siddha has the best implication on it so far. Besides, annihilating the tridosha, it also works to pave the spiritual and mental capability of an individual.
